This workshop is intended for individuals interested in learning how to create designs for use in the Fab Lab. The workshop provides a comprehensive overview of design software, material selection, and best practices for creating designs optimized for fabrication using a laser cutter. Participants will be guided through design software, Adobe Illustrator, to create their own designs, which can then be fabricated in the Fab Lab. By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained the skills necessary to create their own designs for laser cutting and other forms of digital fabrication.
Why Inkscape?
Inkscape is a free open-source vector design program that integrates well with the Fab Lab machines. With Inkscape, you can design for the laser cutter, vinyl cutter, and CNC router. This is for 2D-based design only. For 3D modeling, you will need to explore TinkerCAD or Fusion 360. This is an alternative to the professional software, Adobe Illustrator. Workshop participants can freely download and install the software on their computers without having to pay for a license.
